Our subliminal collective fears and desires aside, the fact is simple: everyone loves a petting zoo. For the 2012 Monash University Faculty of Art and Design Open Day, the Runt/Link student committee welcomes visitors to a PETTING ZOO, which has been plucked from the typical dusty setting of the royal show or community fete and relocated to the soon-to-be-not-so-white cube that is Runt Space. Celebrating the myriad of opportunities afforded by an art education at Monash, Runt Zoo will be an ideal space for forging interaction between current and potential students/artists; embodying notions of community and what it might mean to enter the world of art today –- a world largely characterized, in recent years, by a focus on human interaction in the face of our ever-alienating late-capitalist society.
