Commencing this Tuesday, artist and third-year sculpture student Tace Kelly is presenting works inspired by her recent stay at the Monash Prato campus. Continuing the explorations begun on her trip to Italy, SERVICE, 5 is an installation that artfully combines sound and sculpture. Using recycled cardboard, wax, photography, text, and an amalgam of honey and pigment to create flowing liquid-gold, this exhibition reflects Tace's thoughts on going to Catholic mass for the first time in St. Mark's Basilica, Venice.
Referencing both a specific sense of place and personal experience, SERVICE, 5 focuses in on two particular elements that fascinated Tace in St. Mark's - gold, and the haunting sounds of Italian mass that echo throughout the chambers of the magnificent basilica.
